Creating Engaging Virtual Content
Connect | Captivate | Communicate

From July to November, our first cohort of students took our “Pivot Your Events To Digital Course” and they are already leading the virtual event revolution. Join them from January.
Your virtual events business, including your hybrid events, can create as much impact as your physical events. I will show you how.
.WILLIAM. THOMSON
You are here because you believe that virtual events must create impact. They must be engaging and they must generate the profit you are losing from your physical events
I have designed this course to ensure that you focus on how to deliver high impact events that can generate revenue by creating high-value content, connections and coverage.

- The number one issue that event organisers have with virtual events is creating content that engages their attendees.
The only way to address that issue is for speakers and event organisers to work together and to design content which engages and inspires.
The issue is real. Click on most virtual events and you will be met with the same content as you would have seen walking into a poorly lit conference room. Boring, dry and uninspiring content.
Virtual events demand more than ever before from both the speaker and their content.
The stage has changed and what worked before in the physical world will not work now
We are already seeing speakers struggle.
It won’t be enough to simply repurpose the same old speaker skills and PowerPoint you’d ordinarily use on a stage and think that they’ll do the job virtually – they simply won’t
Effective virtual events that engage audiences need to be redesigned and reinvented in order to succeed in this new virtual world.
Perhaps they don’t yet understand the difference between the two very different “stages”
Maybe they are oversimplifying and underestimating what it means to deliver a virtual presentation.
Our events have moved into the virtual world but our content remains in those basement ballrooms.
Creating Engaging Virtual Content will place engagement at the very heart of our virtual events

SCOPING THE LANDSCAPE FOR YOUR CONTENT
Not all virtual events are the same. The preparation and delivery of content will be affected by many factors. For example, a 100% virtual presentation will be different from a presentation to a hybrid audience.
Fundamentally your role, as the content provider, may change depending on what support you have from the organiser and how your session is to be delivered.
Creating content for LIVE
Creating content for PRE RECORDED
Creating content for SEMI LIVE
Outlining your support ‘team’ –including the role of:
- producer
- Moderator
- Social Sidekick
- Host

Making the most of the technology
The technology that we can use to deliver an engaging session is constantly changing. We have to keep on top of the options that technology offers us as we look to create truly engaging content.
Demand for virtual events has meant that the number and quality of platforms is continuing to increase and the ways to improve our engagement and interaction with the audience is increasing too. We will cover:
An overview of all of the main types of virtual event platforms
How to use polls, Q&A, “upvoting” and chat features
How to interact with an audience using a variety of different Apps and platforms
Unleashing the power of a a Virtual Camera
An introduction to broadcasting technology

Content considerations – all the many things to think about when your creating online content
Crafting your Content
Crafting content for an online presentation is very different to crafting content for a live event.
Endless slides of overpopulated, under edited PowerPoint simply won’t work.
Just because your audience is connected to their internet, does not mean they’ll stay connected to your presentation.
In the online world they are no longer obliged to stay in the room, politely listening to what you’ve got to say, staring at a screen of bullet points until the coffee break.
They can and they will disconnect.
Which is why we’ve introduced this module, because for content to be effective online, it needs a complete overhaul, it needs to be reimagined and reinvented in order to meet the demands of a virtual world and most importantly, a virtual audience.
In this module you will learn:
The most important Do’s & Don’ts when it comes to creating online content
The differences between what worked before and what will kill your presentation now
The fundamental principles of structuring a purpose-driven presentation
The secret of storyboards and how they can help bring your presentation to life
Turning your presentation into a multisensory experience
How to create high-impact content that reinforces your message and amplifies audience engagement

Making it real – bringing your content to life
This is an example and best practice led module, where we will find the best support for you as you creative engaging content.
Concentrating on the ways to bring your session to life and to make it memorable we will look at:
The format options for your virtual session
Alternative ways of constructing your content that breaks the traditional mould
Provide inspiration for your presentation showing how others are using:
⦁ Video
⦁ Audio clips
⦁ Slide creation – animations, graphics, software and techHow to incorporate technology effectively into your session
⦁ Q&A
⦁ Managing the chat

Delivering your content part one
Once you’ve created high impact content that engages your online audience, you’ve still got to be able to deliver that content effectively.
Even a great presentation, on its own, will not be enough to cut through the virtual world and hold your audience’s attention, it needs the help of an effective storyteller to communicate that message so that it lands with significance and meaning.
As an online speaker, you are the vehicle responsible for delivering your content safely to its destination – your audience.
And to do that, you need a new set of speaker skills that will ramp-up your online presence; connecting you with your audience, captivating them with your performance and communicating your message with clarity, conviction and confidence.
This module teaches you how.
You will learn:
How to remain human, creating real connection with your audience in a digital world
How to leverage your voice, using it as a powerful instrument to deliver your message effectively
How to up-level your communication skills to make sure your audience understand your content and care about your message
How to use your body and physical expression without over-using them.
How to cultivate real stage presence to ensure you standout online and get noticed for all the right reasons
How to transform your online presentation into a powerful performance that captures your audience’s attention and delivers your message safely into their hands.

Delivering your content part two
Once you’ve mastered the first stage of delivering your content online, and learnt the new skills required to become a powerful vehicle for your message, it’s time to take it to the next level and focus on the more practical aspects of delivering your content online.
This module will teach you the skills and techniques required to embrace and integrate new technology, equipment into presentation ensuring your delivery is professional, slick and flawless.
You will learn:
How to effectively present to camera without any of the awkwardness
How to work with multiple screens, and maintain good sightlines
To use your script without looking like your using your script
To seamlessly integrate your content
How to make the best of yourself; what to wear, what not to wear
How to make the best of your space; where to sit, where not to sit

Integrating the technology – Production – Hardware
In this new world of virtual events, as a speaker, you no longer have the luxury of simply turning up at the venue, walking on stage and delivering your presentation.
In many situations you now have to be the location scout, the soundman, the camera operator, the lighting technician, the director, the makeup artist, the stage manager, the technical wizard – who can troubleshoot and resolve and technical issues at the drop of a hat – and still, on top of all of this, be an engaging speaker!
The demands got bigger and the stakes got higher.
Event organisers are still striving for those same high production values we’ve come to expect from a live event. That’s where Module Eight comes in!
On this module you’ll learn how to master the more technical side of things:
The room set up and picking the ideal location
The Camera
Using Green screens
Virtual cameras and Mics
Lighting
Audio

Resource Bank and Troubleshooting
You don’t know what you don’t know. And when it comes to this new world of virtual events, potentially that can be quite a lot.
That’s why we’ve included this module; The Resource Bank.
As a speaker we want to set you up for success, equipping you with the knowledge, tools and questions you will need in order to deliver your content effectively, fulfilling your potential online.
